Market Choices

Grain harvested from products that bear this mark is fully approved for food and feed use in the United States and Japan, but is not approved in the European Union. You must find a market for this crop that will not ship this grain or its processed products to Europe. Appropriate markets for this grain include: domestic feed use or grain handlers that specifically agree to accept this grain and handle it appropriately. For more information on your grain market options, go to the American Seed Trade Association’s Web site at www.amseed.org or call your local seed supplier. MARKET CHOICES® is a certification mark used under license from ASTA.

Roundup Ready® Corn 2

Roundup Ready Seed Corn

Always Read and Follow Pesticide Label Directions. Roundup Ready® crops contain genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup® agricultural herbicides. Roundup® agricultural herbicides will kill crops that are not tolerant to glyphosate. Harness® brands are restricted use pesticides and are not registered in all states. The distribution, sale, or use of an unregistered pesticide is a violation of federal and/or state law and is strictly prohibited. Check with your local Monsanto dealer or Monsanto representative for the product registration status in your state. Harness® brands, Roundup®, Roundup Original MAX®, Roundup Ready®, Roundup WeatherMAX®, Start Clean, Stay Clean™, Cleaner Fields, Higher Yields®, Transorb®II and YieldGard® are trademarks of Monsanto Technology LLC. ©2008 Monsanto Company

Insect Resistance Management

Insect Resistance Management

Before opening a bag of seed, be sure to read, understand and accept the stewardship requirements, including applicable refuge requirements for insect resistance management, for the biotechnology traits expressed in the seed as set forth in the Monsanto Technology Agreement that you sign. By opening and using a bag of seed, you are reaffirming your obligation to comply with the most stewardship requirements.

Grandfathering

On April 18, 2005, the European Union (E.U.) notified that the following Monsanto corn traits already in the marketplace will be accepted (grandfathered) in processed feed: YieldGard Plus®, YieldGard® Rootworm with Roundup Ready® Corn 2, and YieldGard® Corn Borer with Roundup Ready Corn 2. This action by the E.U. on these biotech products may result in additional marketing options for growers who plant seeds containing these traits. Growers must talk to their grain handler to learn more and to determine whether this development affects their ability to market or their decision to plant these traits. YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 was not in the market, and therefore not qualified to be notified by the E.U. for acceptance in processed feed. Growers planting YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 must talk to their grain handler to confirm the handler’s buying position for grain from this product. It is a violation of national and international law to move material containing biotech traits across boundaries into nations where import is not permitted.

Benefits of New Seed

Purchasing new seed is a convenient way to ensure getting a product that is highest quality and highest yielding vs. bin run. Our seed meets strict quality standards, and you can rest assured that every bag is professionally handled & rigorously tested. Buying new seed dramatically reduces splits and foreign matter and ensures varietal purity because we use germination tests to ensure piece of mind. New seed is also weed free.

Buying new seed vs. using bin run beans makes good business sense. New seed yields an average of 1.8 bushel/acre more than bin-run (University yield trails range from 1.2-5.9 bushel/acre). Plus, the average loss associated with clean-out is 10-15% for bin run soybeans, and bin run planting rates are generally 15% higher than new certified seed.

There are some limited warranty-benefits associated with buying new seed. With new seed, you get dealer agronomic support before and after the sale. With the purchase of a Roundup® brand herbicide, you can participate in the Roundup Rewards® program, which has paid out over $500 Million to growers since 1997.

Buying new seed supports new innovations. Monsanto’s research and development spend in 2005 was $588 Million. New trait introductions take 7-9 years for commercialization and cost $50-100 Million.

Be smart. Buy New Seed.

Seed Piracy

"Seeds containing the Roundup Ready® trait are protected under numerous United States patents, including Patent No. 5,352,605. In addition, the germplasm in conventional and Roundup Ready® soybean varieties may also be protected under one or more United States patents. Replanting saved seed of Roundup Ready® soybeans or patented conventional soybeans, or transferring patent-protected seed to others for planting is unauthorized and constitutes patent infringement."
